![]() Our lab is in the SIU News today for the discovery of a new species of rain frog, Pristimantis pluvialis (see our previous blog here). Alex is the leading author for the species description, which was published in the journal ZooKeys at the end of May. This addition to the amphibian fauna of Manu National Park, already the protected area with the largest number of amphibians, brings the total to 157 species.

Congratulations to Alex for winning the Gaige Award (photo by Jen Mook) at the herpetology & ichthyology joint meetings in New Orleans 6-10 July! Alex also gave a talk titled "Back from the brink: Bd prevalence in rebounding and remnant amphibian populations" which presented data from his dissertation. Alessandro presented "Secrets of the marsupial frogs", a collaboration with the Warne lab, on maternal nutrient transfer to developing embryos in direct-developing marsupial frogs.
